2025-05-02 The Trump administration cut funding to after-school care programs, leaving increased strain on working families, gaps in learning and support since it also affects summer school programs, and disrupted partnerships between cities and nonprofits.
2025 September
2025-09-08 Trump paused funding for special education programs including special education teacher training. The U.S. Department of Education said, quote, that this department is “inconsistent with, and no longer effectuates, the best interests of the federal government”.
Organizations were only given one week to submit an appeal.
2025-09-16 The Department of Education issued “non-continuation” for nine federally funded projects for middle and high school students, including 9 arts education initiatives, 20 projects centered around American history, and at least two efforts to supply free books to schoolchildren from low-income families. They also cancelled grants for civics, literacy, and college prep.
2026 February
2026-02-27 Pete Hegseth laid out a contingency plan that the US armed forces would continue to support Scouting America only if they complied with Executive Order 14173 and end DEI including the welcoming of trans kids, offering the Citizenship in Society merit badge, among other things. Hegseth wrote in X, “Boy scouts should to back to being the Boy Scouts and originally founded, a group that develops boys into men”.
