2025-04-14 Pam Bondi asserted that Abrego-Garcia was MS13 and that it was not up to the US to return him. In the same press conference, Stephen Miller claimed that the media was arrogant for telling El Salvador how to handle their citizens, and El Salvador president Bukele said he couldn’t “smuggle a terrorist” back into the US.
2025-04-30 The White House shared a digitally altered image of “M-S-1-3” on Abrego Garcia’s hand. Most Americans quickly realized it was simply text typed over a photo of his hand and not actually tattoos. However, Trump repeatedly insisted the picture was real during an interview. It is unclear if the photo intends to depict the meaning behind each tattoo.
2025-05-04 During a Meet the Press interview, Trump did not deny the Abrego Garcia arrest was an administrative error but said that the president of El Salvador would have to decide if Garcia could come back to the US or not.
2025-08-25 DHS detained Kilmar Abrego Garcia. They gave him an ultimatum: plead guilty and we will deport you to Costa Rica. Don’t plead guilty and we will deport you to Uganda.

2025-03-16 Ignoring a ruling to turn a deportation plane around, Tom Homan said “I don’t care what the judges think”. Trump also responded to the ruling, demanding to impeach the judge who ordered the turnaround. President of El Salvador Nayib Bukele posted an obnoxious “oopsie, too late” followed by a laugh-cry emoji.

2025-12-13 When confronted at a hearing, Representative Seth Magaziner of Rhode Island asked Kristi Noem how many United States military veterans were deported. Noem stated we have not reported any US citizens or military veterans. Representative Magaziner then supplied a Purple Heart recipient via Zoom who was deported and another combat veteran whose wife was deported yet came to the States legally.

2026-02-16 A federal judge ordered the Trump administration to return Babson College student Annie Lucia Lopez Belloza after she was wrongfully deported to Honduras in November while she was flying home to surprise her family for Thanksgiving. She was told there was an issue with her boarding pass at the gate and then detained by federal agents.
