SAMPLE LETTER

Dear Sir or Madam:

As if President Trump’s many side ventures were not troubling enough, he now seeks to continue profiting from them while serving as President of the United States. The presidency was never intended to be a for-profit enterprise. Neither should war. Neither should incarceration. Yet that is precisely what we are witnessing.

We have a president who is using the office to generate personal wealth, enriching both himself and his family while occupying the nation’s highest public office. At the same time, his administration advances policies that financially benefit private prison corporations such as The GEO Group through expanded detention and incarceration. Abroad, his actions embolden those who stand to profit from devastation—whether through the destruction of Gaza or the bombing of schools and civilian infrastructure in Iran.

Equally astonishing is that a sitting president continues to solicit personal donations, even maintaining a GoFundMe account. The spectacle of a president leveraging both public office and public sympathy for personal financial gain is beneath the dignity of the presidency.

None of this is merely distasteful or politically controversial. It reflects a profound collapse of ethical leadership. Those entrusted with governing the country are increasingly weaponizing religion as a political instrument, using financial influence to dominate media narratives, and engaging in backroom wheeling and dealing that places private interests ahead of the public good. The result is a political culture in which power, money, and ideology reinforce one another while transparency, accountability, and ethical governance steadily erode.

This is not simply an accumulation of isolated incidents. It reflects a system in which political access, influence, and policy increasingly appear to operate on a pay-to-play basis, with wealthy donors and well-connected elites reaping the benefits while public trust is steadily undermined.

The examples that follow illustrate the basis for these concerns. Some are included to provide historical context, while others document recent developments that demonstrate how public office, private profit, and political power have become increasingly intertwined.
