SAMPLE LETTER

Dear Sir or Madam,

The erosion of democratic norms begins with the systematic capture of institutions, suppression of dissent, and replacement of objective information with partisan messaging.

Buying media companies to turn them into partisan outlets while dismissing legitimate reporting as “fake news” mirrors tactics associated with countries like Hungary and Russia. Public attacks on journalists further undermine confidence in an independent press.

The same pattern extends to dissent. Protesters face threats of expulsion, deportation, terrorism charges, and excessive force. Employees have been fired for expressing compassion regarding Gaza or for refusing to embrace the rhetoric of Charlie Kirk and his weaponization of faith, reinforcing ideological conformity over free expression.

Organizations such as BentKey, TPUSA, and PragerU promote partisan political messaging to children, while Canary Mission and Project Esther fuel conspiracies, manufacture controversies, rely on straw-man arguments, and broadly weaponize accusations of antisemitism to silence criticism. Israeli propaganda campaigns have also been cited in connection with FARA.

Finally, President Trump has consistently removed individuals who do not align with his political agenda, making government institutions increasingly partisan. Taken together, these are not isolated incidents but a pattern of consolidating political power through media influence, ideological enforcement, and suppression of dissent.

The list below outlines my specific concerns. Some entries are included to provide historical context and illustrate how these patterns have developed over time.

Chronology.

1971-08-03 Virginian corporate attorney Lewis Powell wrote a confidential 8-page memo “Attack on American Free Enterprise System” outlining efforts for corporations to take over universities and media. He was later nominated by Nixon to the US Supreme Court in 1972. He sat on the Phillips-Morris board and argued cigarettes did not cause cancer.

1972-01-01 Nixon said, “The press is the enemy…the establishment is the enemy…the professors are the enemy…write that on a blackboard 100 times and never forget it”.

2020-05-27 Trump wrote, “Republicans feel that Social Media Platforms totally silence conservatives voices. We will strongly regulate, or close them down, before we can ever allow this to happen. We saw what they attempted to do, and failed, in 2016. We can’t let a more sophisticated version of that…happen again. Just like we can’t let large scale Mail-in Ballots take root in our country. It would be a free for all on cheating, forgery, and theft of Ballots. Whoever cheated the most would win. Likewise, Social Media. Clean up your act, NOW!!!”.
