30-SECOND QUESTIONS

WHAT AM I

If you don’t know what to ask at your next town hall, feel free to use one of these questions below.

These questions are all being managed by one (1) person, so edit and correct them to your liking and make them your own.

Or, email me/ if you have a question idea you want to submit. I don’t always check my email, but I will try!

Question 1

The Defense Department is separating transgender service members, including people who have served honorably and met military standards, while describing the policy as restoring a “warrior ethos.” What do you say to transgender Americans who are willing and qualified to defend this country but are being told their identity makes them unfit, and will you oppose removing capable service members for reasons unrelated to their performance?

SIDE NOTE: Under the military’s Disability Evaluation System, medical separation requires that the servicemember be “unfit to perform their duties”. Under Hegseth, the policy to remove transgender was deliberately structured to make this an administrative, non-disability separation. So, even if they remove the servicemember for “gender dysphoria”, they don’t have to prove that the individual cannot perform their duties.

2019 policy before Hegseth changed it (archived) It clearly states 5 important things WAR.gov archived page 1) Transgender individuals are not banned from service 2) Transgender service members may continue to serve 3) Everyone – including transgender persons – meet stringent medical requirements to serve 4) Gender dysphoria is a medical condition (according to this article from the DoD) 5) It eliminates special accommodation

Question 2

Some conspiracy theories are absurd, but others put real people in danger. President Trump falsely claimed that children were going to school and coming home with sex-change operations. When national leaders spread inflammatory lies about transgender children, they invite bullying and harassment against kids who are already vulnerable. Will you publicly condemn that rhetoric, and what will you do to protect transgender students from politically motivated intimidation?

Question 3

Pete Hegseth removed Harvey Milk’s name from a Navy ship while claiming he was “taking the politics out of ship naming,” yet his broader campaign has renamed military ships and bases to reflect this administration’s own political priorities. Meanwhile, the Pentagon’s separate “Department of War” rebranding could cost taxpayers as much as $125 million. How is replacing one set of names with MAGA-approved names somehow apolitical, and how much taxpayer money are you willing to waste on ideological rebranding?
