President Trump complained that the Smithsonian focuses on “how bad slavery was,” ordered his attorneys to scrutinize museums as they had universities, and directed federal sites to remove or revise exhibits concerning slavery and Native American history. Do you support politicians pressuring museums and national parks to present a sanitized version of our past, and will you defend historians’ ability to teach the complete truth, including America’s injustices?

Question 2

There is a visible pattern of the Trump administration removing prominent and qualified women and minorities from senior positions without clear explanations, amid its broader anti-DEI campaign. Beyond these personnel actions, we have seen President Trump and prominent supporters publicly demean minorities, telling congresswomen of color to “go back” to where they came from, mocking Ilhan Omar’s hijab, and posting an AI-generated video of the Obamas as apes. At what point will Trump’s supporters in Congress stop excusing this conduct, and what will you do to ensure Americans of every race and gender are treated with dignity by their own president?

President Trump repeatedly called COVID-19 the “Chinese virus” and “kung flu,” while anti-Asian harassment and violence surged so dramatically that Congress passed the bipartisan COVID-19 Hate Crimes Act. Congressman, should a president’s racially inflammatory rhetoric simply be excused when it places Americans at greater risk, and will you publicly condemn leaders in your own party when their words contribute to hatred and violence?

Question 4

David Duke and other white supremacists supported Donald Trump. After a white supremacist murdered Heather Heyer at the 2017 Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville, President Trump initially blamed “many sides,” waited two days to explicitly condemn the KKK and neo-Nazis, and then returned to saying there was blame on “both sides”; remarks David Duke praised. Why was condemning racist violence not immediate and unequivocal, and will you condemn leaders who create moral equivalence between white supremacists and those protesting them?
