SAMPLE LETTER

Dear Sir or Madam,

Some actions taken by this administration are more than frustrating—they are deeply unsettling. There are too many parallels to the tactics used by authoritarian governments throughout history to simply dismiss them as politics. The United States has made serious mistakes before, but we are now increasingly being viewed as the aggressor rather than the defender of democratic values.

Consider what has already occurred. I have not even included media suppression, retaliation against protesters and universities, voter intimidation, or the use of military forces in ways that raise serious Posse Comitatus concerns. Those issues alone deserve their own discussion. What follows are additional examples that should alarm anyone who values constitutional government and the rule of law.

Taken together, these actions reflect a pattern of consolidating power, weakening democratic institutions, and normalizing conduct that would have been unacceptable in any previous administration. Regardless of political affiliation, that should concern every American.

Look at these examples and ask yourself whether they represent the principles our country was founded upon. Ask whether this is the direction we want our nation to continue moving. If the answer is no, then we should be working together to oppose what increasingly resembles an authoritarian government rather than dismissing each incident as an isolated event.

Chronology.

1952-01-01 The US put support behind Cuban dictator Fulgencio Batista.

1955-05-04 The CIA trained torturers serving Fulgencio Batista’s regime in Cuba.

1980-12-02 In El Salvador groups of U.S. troops assaulted and killed Catholic nuns and priests.

1982-03-23 Self-proclaimed born-again Pentecostal Efrain Rios Montt carried out one of the largest genocides against the Maya, with financial backing from the US. He was convicted of genocide in 2013. Ronald Regan called him “a man of great personal integrity”. Jerry Falwell supported him, and Pat Robinson interviewed him on the 700 Club. Christianity Today’s Luis Palau said, “It’s great to have a Christian president as a model…the hand of God appears to be on him”.

1990-01-01 Trump praised the Chinese government for their “strength and paramilitary action” during Tiananmen Square.

2014-07-23 Hungary’s history of media suppression and spyware contracts parallels that of the U.S. in 2025.

2014-07-23 In 2014 JD Vance wrote, “But I’m not surprised by Trump’s rise, and I think the entire party has only itself to blame. We are, whether we like it or not, the party of lower-income, lower-education white people, and I have been saying for a long time that we need to offer those people SOMETHING (and hell, maybe even expand our appeal to working class black people in the process) or a demagogue would. We are now at that point. Trump is the fruit of the party’s collective neglect. I go back and forth between thinking Trump is a cynical asshole like Nixon who wouldn’t be that bad (and might even prove useful) or that he’s America’s Hitler. How’s that for discouraging?”.

2016-01-23 Trump said, “I could stand in the middle of 5th Avenue and shoot somebody, okay, and I wouldn’t lose any voters, okay?”.

2016-02-28 Ted Cruz said Trump is a “charming person” who “can turn on you overnight”.

2016-06-30 The Duterte regime in the Philippines and the current U.S. climate share parallels, including “war on drugs” rhetoric, extrajudicial killings, democratic backsliding, and governance through fear and repression.

2016-10-22 RFK compared Trump to Hitler on his podcast.

2017-04-29 Snake Poem

2017-11-01 The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 reduced corporate tax from 35% to 21%. As a result, the richest people took their own tax breaks while inflating their own wealth, it was the largest stock buyback in history, it caused a 120% billionaire boom, and it widened the deficit.

2018-01-30 Steve Bannon told Michael Lewis, “The Democrats don’t matter. The real opposition is the media. And the way to deal with them is to flood the zone with shit”.

2018-05-08 Pope Francis warned people not to enter dialogue with the devil, calling the devil “The Great Liar”. Pope Francis issued a second warning in

2020, telling people not to have dialogue with the devil, adding that Jesus himself does not enter dialogue with the devil. In 2023 Pope Francis issued a third and final warning not to enter dialogue with the devil. Pope Francis then rebuked the Trump administration for their immigration policy and cruelty, and for JD Vance’s sudden switch to Christianity. He passed away on April 21, 2025 after a visit from JD Vance.

2018-06-19 Under the first Trump administration the U.S. withdrew from the UN Human Rights Council. Secretary Pompeo called the council “a poor defender of human rights”, accused it of allowing authoritarian government in its membership, claimed unfair election processes, and claimed bias against Israel. The UN representative at the time Nikki Haley also made her remarks.

2022-04-19 JD Vance compared Trump to Hitler.

2022-11-24 Russia suppressed the media, same as the US started doing in 2025.

2022-12-03 Trump posted, “So, with the revelation of MASSIVE & WIDESPREAD FRAUD & DECEPTION in working closely with Big Tech Companies, the DNC, & the Democrat Parter, do you throw the Presidential Election Results of 2020 OUT and declare the RIGHTFUL WINNER, or do you have a NEW ELECTION? A Massive Fraud of this type and magnitude allows for the termination of all rules, regulations, and articles, even those found in the Constitution. Our great “Founders” did not want, and would not condone, False & Fraudulent Elections!”.

2023-01-01 Netanyahu has repeatedly tried to overhaul the judiciary, give the ruling coalition power to pick their own judges, and prohibit courts form striking down “unreasonable” decisions.

2023-11-11 Trump called his political opponents “vermin” at a rally in Claremont, NH, and pledged to “root them out.”

2023-12-05 Trump joked about being a dictator “on day one” during a speech in Davenport, Iowa.

2023-12-06 In an interview with Hannity, Trump repeated his “dictator on day one” remark and referred to January 6 prisoners as “hostages.”

2024-03-08 Trump hosted Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán at Mar-a-Lago and called him “fantastic.”

2024-03-16 Trump said during a campaign rally in Vandalia Ohio, “If I don’t get elected, it’s going to be a blood bath for the whole – that’s going to be the least of it. It’s going to be a blood bath for the country. That’ll be the least of it. But they’re not going to sell those cars”.

2024-04-26 Trump again praised Viktor Orbán.

2024-05-17 Article: “Roy Cohn: The mysterious US lawyer who helped Donald Trump rise to power.” The article notes Cohn’s role in McCarthy-era investigations and his later mentorship of Trump during Trump’s early business career in New York City.

2024-07-01 Trump argued that presidents have absolute immunity from criminal prosecution. In 2026, he invoked the Supreme Court’s immunity ruling in arguing for protection regarding “official acts.”

2024-07-26 At a Turning Point rally, Trump told supporters they would only need to vote “this one time” because the votes would be “fixed.”

2024-09-10 Trump praised Viktor Orbán during a presidential debate.

2024-10-23 Jeffrey Goldberg quoted Trump as saying he wanted “the kind of generals Hitler had…People who were totally loyal to him, that follow orders”.

2024-10-23 John Kelly warned that Trump had raised the idea of Hitler’s generals.

2024-12-16 A Human Rights Watch report examined the use of family-separation as a deterrent and cited that 1,360 children remained separated from their parents six years later.

2025-01-27 Elon Musk attended a far-right rally in Germany.

2025-04-04 Irish residents say the US is slipping into fascism.

2025-04-14 Trump praised Vladimir Putin numerous times (article).

2025-05-12 Steve Bannon declared the Era of Trump “like it or not”, referenced the “steal of 2020”, and said there were multiple workarounds to serving a third term.

2025-06-03 Allegedly Trump kept a copy of Adolf Hitler speeches next to his bedside.

2025-07-04 After a fallout with Trump, Musk wrote “Independence Day is the perfect time to ask if you want independence from the two-party (some would say uniparty) system! Should we create the America Party?” and he offered a poll. The next day he wrote, “By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party and you shall have it! When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste & graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy. Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom”.

2025-07-08 Trump posted a message on Truth Social claiming Bolsonaro’s arrest was a “witch hunt”.

2025-07-13 The United States and Israel pursued joint efforts to relocate Palestinians to Sudan or Libya.

2025-08-25 During an interview Trump quipped “maybe they want a dictator”.

2025-08-26 Trump had a banner of himself mounted upon the building across from the US Labor Department.

2025-08-30 The U.S. Navy sank a Venezuelan vessel in international waters.

2025-09-06 JD Vance posted on social media, “killing cartel members who poison our fellow citizens is the highest and best use of our military”. Brian Krassenstein replied, “killing the citizens of another nation who are civilians without any due process is called a war crime”. JD Vance responded, “I don’t give a shit what you call it”. Vance also wrote, “Democrats:let’s send your kids to die in Russia…Republicans:actually let’s protect our people from the scum of the earth”.

2025-09-10 News reports alleged there were survivors to the Venezuelan boat strike, and that the U.S. turned back to finish the job. If this was true it would be considered a breach of Rules of Engagement and an act of murder.

2025-09-11 Bolsonaro was sentenced to 27 years for a coup after his party formally claimed, without evidence, that government employees altered 2022 election ballots. Trump defended him, calling him a “good man”.

2025-09-11 After a fact-finding mission, Democratic Senators Chris Van Holland and Jeff Merkley released a report accusing Israel of collective punishment and ethnic cleansing.

2025-09-13 Elon Musk attended a far-right anti-immigration rally in the UK organized by Tommy Robinson where Musk told the audience, “Violence is coming” and “You either fight back or die”.

2025-09-16 The UN Independent International Commission issued a 72-page report condemning the Israeli government of violating 4-out-of-5 acts prohibited under the 1948 Genocide Convention.

2026-02-24 During the State of the Union Trump joked about U.S. strikes on Venezuelan boats in the Caribbean that killed hundreds of people, “We very seriously damaged their fishing industry, also. Also, nobody wants – nobody wants to go fishing anymore”.

2025-02-28 Pete Hegseth dismantled civilian casualty mitigation programs ahead of the Iran war by dismantling the Civilian Mitigation and Response Action Plan. On the first day of the war in Iran, the US launched a Tomahawk missile into an all-girls school and killed nearly 200 children. The US denied allegations of launching the missile, and Trump even claimed Iran might have bombed themselves during a Mar-a-Lago press conference on March 9th.

2026-03-24 North Korean leaders accuse the US of crossing the line through state-sponsored terrorism.

2026-03-24 The UN demanded Israel immediately release Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, citing severe abuse and torture. Dr. Safiya had been detained by Israeli forces since December 27 2024 after refusing to abandon his patients during an Israeli raid at a hospital.

2026-03-26 Treasury announced Trump’s signature would appear on U.S. currency.

2026-03-27 Israeli soldiers fatally shot 15-year-old Adma Dahman in the abdomen south of Bethlehem.

2026-03-30 Trump publicly threatened to bomb desalination plants, electric plants and oil wells in Iran, which would be a war crime. When asked, Karoline Leavitt defended Trump, “Um, look – the president has made it quite clear to the Iranian regime at this moment in time as evidenced by the statement that you just read, that their best move is to make a deal – or else the United States armed forces has capabilities beyond their wildest imagination and the president is not afraid to use them…” When journalists pointed out war-crime concerns, Karoline Leavitt responded, “That’s not what I said, Garrett, and you’re saying the word potential for a reason, ‘cuz I’m sure some experts are telling you that in your ear to try to ask me that question. Of course, this administration and the United States armed forces will always act within the confines of the law, but with respect to achieving the full objectives of Operation Epic Fury, President Trump is going to move forward unabated, and he expected – expects – the Iranian regime to make a deal with the administration”.

2026-04-07 Ro Khanna and Martha MacCallum argued over Trump’s threat to exterminate the Iranian civilization.

2026-04-07 Trump threatened that “a whole civilization will die tonight” unless Iran reopened the Strait of Hormuz.

2026-04-15 JD Vance and Mike Johnson lashed out at the Pope for criticizing Trump’s elective war in Iran. Vance threatened the Pope should “be careful talking about theology,” while Johnson cited “Just War Doctrine.” The Pope later warned against manipulating religion for political, economic, or military purposes and condemned a world “ravaged by a handful of tyrants.”

2026-04-15 The White House submitted plans for a $125M Triumphal Arch to overshadow Arlington Cemetery.

2026-04-16 House Democrats introduced articles of impeachment against Pete Hegseth for high crimes.

2026-05-03 Israel displaced residents from ten Lebanese towns and killed 2,659 civilians in Lebanon since March.

2026-05-04 Captured activists from the Global Sumud Flotilla reported that Israeli forces subjected detainees to beatings and torture so severe that captives were passing out.

2026-05-04 Iranian State Media reported the U.S. fired on small cargo boats and passengers, killing five civilians. U.S. Central Command claimed the vessels threatened commercial shipping.

2026-05-04 Israel carried out separate attacks in Gaza killing three Palestinians and leaving several others badly injured. They also shot 26-year-old Naif Smaro in the head during a raid in Nablus as he was dropping his wife off at the hospital to give birth to their first child. During the raid at least 4 others including 2 children were struck by ammunition.

2026-05-05 Nobel Peace Prize laureate Narges Mohammadi was hospitalized in critical condition after collapsing in an Iranian prison. She had reportedly been denied medical care despite prior heart attacks.

2026-05-07 Israel continued to kill Palestinians, block aid, and prevent reconstruction. Meanwhile, Gaza faced more health crises of sewage contamination, cooking with cardboard, no water or shelter, and rat infestation.

2026-05-15 Senator Kirsten Gillibrand questioned US Central Command head Admiral Brad Cooper during a hearing for the Senate Arms Committee about why the US had bombed 22 schools and hospitals in Iran. Cooper denied any such bombings except indicating an investigation on the first school bombing when a US Tomahawk missile struck an all-girls school on day 1 of the war.

2026-05-22 Combat veteran and Democratic Representative Pat Ryan said, “These chickenhawk motherf*ckers are going to send us home for Memorial Day weekend – where I’m going to honor my fellow veterans that I served 27 months in combat with – and they are going to not even give an up or down vote on continuing this war almost 3 months in while Americans are paying almost $5 a gallon at the pumps. 2026-06-01 Section 224 of the 2027 Defense Bill aims to merge the U.S. and Israeli militaries.

2026-06-03 Republicans joined Democrats in a 215–208 House vote to end the Iran conflict. The measure remained largely symbolic because it still required Senate approval and Trump’s signature.

2026-06-08 Citizens of France accosted Pete Hegseth after a Normandy memorial speech in which he called immigration into Europe to a modern “invasion.” France called out the remarks for being toxic and cited Hegseth of “trying to interfere” with their democracy.

2026-06-10 Trump is trying to take control over the US Postal Service.

2026-06-23 UN High Commissioner for Human Rights said about atrocities in Sudan, “The imminent offensive against Alade in Sudan risks commission of serious international crimes and deepens the catastrophic impact on an already beleaguered civilian population”.

2026-06-23 United Auto Workers voted to divest from Israel Bonds and issued a statement, “This is going to send a message to – not just the billionaire class – but to politicians and any single person who is not afraid to stand up to genocide, to Netanyahu, to the United States government, and will put the UAW again on the map for standing up for international solidarity”.

2026-07-02 The largest Presbyterian denomination in the US denounced Israel, declared Israel’s assault on Gaza a genocide, and divested from Palantir and GE for funding the genocide.

2026-07-07 CCTV footage released showed Israeli police throwing a stun grenade into a car then pushing the door shut on occupants.

2026-07-08 A group of retired judges marched in protest over fears that the rule of law is under threat in the United States.

2026-07-09 A new poll from AP NORC showed that some Jewish Americans are tired of Netanyahu and perhaps don’t feel like they are supported by any political party.

2026-07-13 The Trump administration vowed to disable the International Criminal Court.

2026-07-16 Stephen Miller told a Washington DC conference that leftists were driven by “envy and hatred” and accused the left of partisan political violence. Marco Rubio claimed at the conference left-wing violence has been ignored. During the international summit Miller and Rubio “formally” recognized “left-wing violence” and referenced the NSPM-7 directive to label leftists as terrorists.

2026-07-20 Mamdani said Netanyahu should be arrested when he visits New York this fall for the UN General Assembly.

2026-07-22 Mamdani urged an ICC arrest warrant on Netanyahu but made it very clear that he does not have authority to arrest him as the Mayor.

2026-07-23 Netanyahu backed the GOP to end US military aid, but in the agreement they included a 5-page piece of legislation within HR 8800 Section 224 entitled, “United States-Israel Defense Technology Cooperation Initiative”. This bill includes “facilitating the transition of technologies”, “establishing frameworks”, and “promoting joint training exercises”. This integrates the United States military into the Israeli military.
