SAMPLE LETTER

Dear Sir or Madam,

You cannot continue treating the LGBTQ+ community as though they are somehow less deserving of the rights, dignity, and protections afforded to every other citizen of this country. They are ordinary people living ordinary lives. They serve in our military, care for the sick in our hospitals, raise families, work in factories and assembly lines, feed the hungry, and contribute to virtually every aspect of American society. They are our coworkers, our friends, our neighbors, and our fellow citizens.

There is no justification for shaming, excluding, or endangering them by promoting rhetoric that fuels prejudice and hostility. No individual or institution has the right to impose an extreme religious ideology on the public or to determine who is worthy of equal treatment under the law. Citizenship and civil rights are not contingent upon conformity to any one religious belief.

The LGBTQ+ community is not composed of criminals, nor should its members be portrayed as threats to society. If one chooses to invoke religious principles, it is worth remembering that hatred, condemnation, and the judgment of one’s neighbor stand in direct opposition to the values of compassion and justice that many faiths profess. The continued spread of propaganda that vilifies an entire group of people serves only to divide communities and encourage discrimination.

The following sections outline my concerns in greater detail. Some of the information is included to provide historical context and demonstrate the broader pattern that has led to the issues addressed in this letter.

Chronology.

1955-01-01 The anti-LGBTQ Westboro Baptist church was founded. They are known for their picketing, harassment, and slogan “God hates f-gs”.

1992-01-01 The anti-gay propaganda film “The Gay Agenda” was produced by Christian right-wing fundamentalist group Springs of Life Ministries.

2003-01-01 Janet Porter founded the conservative Christian ministry Faith 2 Action, which was classified as a hate group in 2018. She authored HB493 Ohio “Heartbeat Bill”, claimed gay marriage caused Noah’s floods, and was the director of the Center for Reclaiming America which is a far-right organization bent on returning society to a “biblical worldview”.

2012-04-01 Rick Santorum campaigned on anti-gay rhetoric and abortion misinformation. He claimed there was nothing in America before white colonizers arrived and that Native Americans had not contributed to American culture, marriage equality would lead to sibling marriages or man on dog marriages, and gay rights prevented God from blessing America.

2015-06-26 In response to the Obergefell v. Hodges same-sex marriage case Justice Samuel Alito wrote “I assume that those who cling to old beliefs will be able to whisper their thoughts in the recesses of their homes, but if they repeat those views in public, they will risk being labeled as bigots and treated as such by governments, employers, and schools”. He repeated what he wrote in 2020 in an address to the Federalist Society. (law.cornell.edu)

2015-07-01 Doug Wilson claimed same-sex marriage was a more serious problem than supporting slavery.

2016-06-12 A gunman murdered 49 people and wounded 53 more at the Pulse LGBTQ nightclub in Orlando.

2017-02-22 Conservative writer Rod Dreher wrote, “LGBT activism is the tip of the spear at our throats in the culture war”.

2017-08-25 Trump signed a memo to ban transgender people from serving in the U.S. military.

2019-01-01 Tulsi Gabbard touted working for her father’s anti-gay group, backing conversion therapy, and fighting same-sex marriage.

2019-02-01 Republicans launched an anti-gay smear campaign against Pete Buttigieg.

2019-02-28 Fox News published an article claiming that the Trump administration spearheaded an initiative to end criminalization of homosexuality worldwide. They also claimed in that article that LGBTQ+ groups called it a stunt and were skeptical.

2021-01-22 SCOTUS allowed the Trump administration’s ban on transgender in the military to take effect.

2021-01-25 Biden revoked Trump’s transgender military ban.

2021-06-17 The Supreme Court ruled in favor of a Catholic charity that wanted to exclude gay couples from the placement of foster children in Fulton v. City of Philadelphia. Justice Samuel Alito felt the ruling did not go far enough, writing, “This decision might as well be written on dissolving paper sold in magic shops”.

2021-07-17 Liberty University’s diversity retention officer sued Liberty for discrimination of his race and sexual orientation. Liberty University is a far-right evangelical private school that has been involved with Trump and funded “The Trump Prophecy” film.

2021-09-02 China banned “sissy idols” and effeminate men on TV.

2022-06-01 Matt Walsh was featured in the anti-gay propaganda film “What is a Woman”. In the documentary Walsh accused schools of child abuse for allowing gender identity.

2023-01-16 Conservatives claimed the green M&M is gay.

2023-03-03 In the same news story, Ken Peters of Patriot Church in Tennessee admonished planned parenthood and transgender people but praised the Proud Boys.

2023-04-01 MAGA boycotted Bud Light for featuring transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney in one of their commercials.

2023-05-24 After backlash from conservative Christian groups, Target removed Pride Month products.

2023-08-23 Missouri introduced SB134 the “Vulnerable Child Compassion and Protection Act” to prohibit gender identity or acknowledgement and threaten teachers who helped students accept their gender identities.

2023-11-30 The Russian Supreme Court labelled LGBT as a movement and an “extremist organization”.

2024-02-29 Missouri passed HB 2885 to classify teachers as sex offenders for supporting social transition or using preferred pronouns.

2024-04-01 Charlie Kirk said, “We need to have a Nuremberg-style trial for every gender-affirming clinic doctor. We need it immediately.”

2024-07-01 According to a BBC investigation, a social media post made false claims that a trade pact between the EU and Nigeria contained a clause forcing Nigeria to legalize same-sex relationships. A 2024 investigation by Deutsche Welle showed that American far-right Christian groups have been influencing and fueling anti-LGBTQ sentiment in Africa, including Nigeria, for decades - pushing homophobic misinformation and lobbying for anti-gay legislation.

2024-07-15 The Grindr dating app crashed during the Republican National Convention.

2024-08-28 Missouri passed SB728 which is very similar to SB134, prohibiting encouragement of gender identity and requiring teachers to inform parents within 24 hours.

2024-09-07 At a Wisconsin rally, Trump falsely claimed children were going to school and coming home with sex changes.

2024-09-20 Trump launched an anti-gay ad campaign “Kamala is for they/them - Trump is for you”.

2024-10-03 A Pennsylvania middle school installed surveillance windows in gender-inclusive bathrooms.

2024-10-31 An employee sued Liberty University for wrongful termination after she was fired for disclosing she was transgender. Liberty University is a far-right evangelical private school that has been involved with Trump and funded “The Trump Prophecy” film.

2024-11-18 Nancy Mace pushed to ban transgender bathrooms.

2025-01-20 Trump signed Executive Order “Defending Women from Gender Ideology Extremism and Restoring Biological Truth to the Federal Government”.

2025-01-20 During the inauguration Reverend Mariann Edgar Budde begged for mercy on behalf of immigrants and LGBTQ+ people. Both Fox News and Charlie Kirk condemned Bishop Budde, calling her a “disgrace” and an “embarrassment”. Trump demanded an apology from Reverend Mariann Edgar Budde.

2025-01-20 Trump rescinded Executive Order 14075 Advancing Equality for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and Intersex Individuals.

2025-01-21 The Trump administration removed the X option from passport applications.

2025-01-27 Trump signed another executive order banning transgender from serving in the US military. A federal judge blocked the order, but SCOTUS inevitably allowed it to proceed.

2025-01-31 The Trump administration purged medical information related to HIV health and LGBTQ.

2025-02-05 Trump signed Executive Order “Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports”.

2025-03-07 The Trump administration purged 26,000 military photos of anything referencing women or minorities including photos of the Enola Gay.

2025-03-20 Trump suspended $175M in funding to the University of Pennsylvania for allowing a transgender athlete on the women’s swim team. In July, Trump released $175M in funding back to University of Pennsylvania only after they agreed to remove transgender Lia Thomas’ records and issue an apology.

2025-04-22 In Mahmood v. Montgomery county, plaintiffs argued that parents should have the right to opt their children out of curriculum that conflicts with their religious beliefs. During the arguments Justice Samuel Alito cited the book Uncle Bobby’s Wedding and his opinion about its moral message.

2025-05-07 Marjorie Taylor Greene repeatedly banged her gavel during a trans-athlete hearing.

2025-06-27 During Pride Month Pete Hegseth renamed USNS Harvey Milk to USNS Oscar V Peterson, claiming the original name was political and didn’t align with a warrior ethos.

2025-07-17 The 988 suicide and crisis line for LGBTQ+ was permanently shut down.

2025-07-21 Derek Huffman moved his family from Texas to Russia to avoid “woke” ideology. Once moved, Russia sent him to the front lines of a combat zone.

2025-08-12 MAGA conservatives boycotted the Minnesota Vikings because they had male cheerleaders.

2025-08-27 DeSantis ordered Florida communities to remove rainbow street art and threatened to withhold state transportation funding for noncompliance.

2025-09-05 The DOJ considered banning guns specifically from anyone transgender.

2025-09-10 Jason Chaffetz publicly speculated the Charlie Kirk shooter was transgender.

2025-09-10 Fox host Jesse Watters proclaimed the Democrats were “at war” while he simultaneously attacked transgender people.

2025-09-13 Laura Loomer posted on X, “This is President Trump’s chance to rid America of the trans movement. He can shut these people down and take away their funding and make sure none of these freaks are able to benefit from a 501c3 status”.

2025-09-13 Laura Loomer posted, “How much you want to bet we are going to find out there is a Trans terror cell that groomed Tyler Robinson and possibly even provided him with the gun to kill Charlie? It seems like this was very pre-meditated”. On the same day in a separate post, Loomer responded to News Wire “It’s time to designate the transgender movement as a terrorist movement.” The next day the Scoop sent out a Poll “Should we ban transgenders from purchasing firearms?”

2025-09-16 Ronny Jackson falsely claimed while on Newsmax that trans people have psychiatric illnesses and gender dysphoria.

2025-09-18 CSPAN headline, “I’m a woman. Are you a woman?”

2025-10-28 Texas ruled that judges who refuse to perform gay marriages will not have to face charges of judicial partiality.

2025-11-12 During the 4th Annual Northeast Indiana Defense Summit Pete Hegseth criticized DEI initiatives, political correctness, and what he called “climate change worship”.

2025-11-19 Sixteen-year veteran of the FBI David Maltinsky was fired for displaying a Pride flag.

2025-11-27 After an Oklahoma State University student received an F for not citing facts on an assignment about gender, she reported her grade to TPUSA, and the professor was placed on administrative leave.

2025-12-11 Joel Webbon said, “Homosexuality is degenerate. It is bad for the populace. It’s bad for society. It’s been incredibly harmful. We’ve seen a full fullcourt press against our own children as the sacrificial lamb in order to appease older gay men and make them feel better about themselves. It’s wicked, it’s predatory, and I think – yeah – it is appropriate for us to be able to call it what it is and say ‘Wait a second, this is perverse, it’s wicked, it’s faggotry”. This person also allegedly claimed women should not vote and Dr. Martin Luther King Junior is in hell.

2026-01-06 Texas A&M directed teachers to ban Plato, citing “gender ideology”.

2026-02-11 The White House removed a rainbow Pride Flag from the Stonewall National Monument in New York City.

2026-02-18 Kansas lawmakers passed an anti-transgender measure to restrict access to bathrooms and locker rooms in public buildings based on sex assigned at birth and rolled back gender markers on driver’s licenses and birth certificates.

2026-02-27 Pete Hegseth said the US Armed Forces will only support Scouting America if it complies with EO 14173 to end DEI and ban trans kids. He wrote, “Boy scouts should go back to being the Boy Scouts as originally founded, a group that develops boys into men”.

2026-03-10 Karoline Leavitt claimed that the SAVE act was “rooted in common sense”, would abolish so-called mail in fraud, and even cited that Jimmy Carter believed mail-in ballots were the “largest source of potential fraud”. In her assertion, she added the SAVE act “permanently bans men from competing in women’s sports” and “bans transgender mutilation surgery for children”.

2026-03-17 Fox News peddled a gay conspiracy about the new Iranian ayatollah

2026-03-31 SCOTUS blocked Colorado’s ban on conversion therapy.

2026-04-01 Tabloids exploited leaked information that Kristi Noem’s husband Byron lived an alternative life cross-dressing and paid adult entertainers to role-play with him.

2026-04-01 The Chicago Bulls cut ties with Jaden Ivey for expressing anti-LGBTQ views. After Ivey’s separation, TreVeyon Henderson posted, “Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” – Matthew 5:10.

2026-04-17 Madison Square Garden used facial-recognition systems to track a trans woman’s movements, including bathroom visits.

2026-06-01 Federal courts blocked the Pentagon from discharging transgender service members but allowed the Pentagon to continue banning transgender people from entering.

2026-06-02 Ghana’s anti-LGBTQ bill required further scrutiny as it would endanger the lives of the LGBTQ community. The bill places 10-year prison sentences on anyone promoting LGBTQ and critics have called it the “kill the gays bill”.

2026-06-30 SCOTUS ruled 6-to-3 to ban trans athletes from participating in women’s sports.

2026-07-09 A Madison Square Garden database leak showed that they tracked and categorized hundreds of celebrities, labeling them “LGBTQIA”, “DO NOT HOST”, and low to high risk.

2026-07-15 Hegseth announced a new policy to test troops for low testosterone.

2026-07-21 The GOP pressed the Smithsonian history director over what they called “woke ideology” in displays.

2026-07-24 During the rescheduled correspondence dinner Trump quipped, “This place is really the largest group of Trump derangement syndrome people ever put together at one time, I suspect. Some of you are lucky that our last dinner was cut short, because I had brought with me what would possibly have been—I’m telling you, I had something. I was going to go after you…” and subsequently, “Your lives were really in danger the last time. But on the plus side, your careers were saved”. Then he took jabs at Kaitlan Collins, mocked Dylan Mulvaney, insulted Anderson Cooper and Don Lemon, and targeted opponents.
