SAMPLE LETTER
Dear Member of Congress,
I am writing out of deep concern about the sustained erosion of women’s rights, safety, healthcare access, and equal participation in American life.
The reversal of Roe v. Wade has allowed increasingly severe restrictions on reproductive healthcare. Women experiencing miscarriages, pregnancy complications, and incomplete medication abortions have reportedly faced dangerous delays or denials of care because doctors fear prosecution. Some patients have died after being unable to receive timely procedures. At the same time, lawmakers have repeatedly opposed protections for contraception and IVF, while proposals in several states have sought to criminalize abortion, restrict the sharing of medical information, investigate pregnancy loss, and threaten access to birth control.
These policies are developing alongside rhetoric that portrays women primarily as wives, mothers, or instruments for increasing birth rates. Influential political figures, commentators, religious leaders, and organizations have argued that women should not vote, lead, serve in combat, study certain fields, or leave unwanted marriages. Women without children have been described as selfish, unstable, or less deserving of political influence. Public statements trivializing sexual assault, domestic abuse, and women’s professional accomplishments further normalize discrimination and hostility.
There are also troubling institutional consequences. Women’s history and gender-related educational programs have been removed or restricted. Female military officers have reportedly been excluded from advancement, advisory bodies have been dissolved, and protections against sex and gender discrimination have been rescinded. Colleges and other institutions have faced serious allegations concerning failures to protect women from sexual violence.
This is not simply a disagreement over culture or family values. It concerns whether women are entitled to bodily autonomy, lifesaving medical treatment, equal protection, education, professional advancement, political participation, and freedom from coercion.
I urge Congress to protect nationwide access to contraception, IVF, abortion and miscarriage care; strengthen protections for patients and healthcare providers; preserve the Violence Against Women Act and the FACE Act; defend voting access; enforce anti-discrimination laws; and investigate policies that disproportionately endanger or exclude women.
Women are full and equal citizens. Their health, freedom, safety, and constitutional rights should not depend on their state, marital status, pregnancy status, religion, or willingness to conform to a prescribed social role.
Chronology.
1970-01-01 Donald J. Trump has faced numerous sexual assault allegations dating back to the 1970s.
1973-01-22 Roe v. Wade legalized abortion.

He later gave a statement to Forbes magazine saying he wish he had never written those things and admitted that rape in all forms is a crime.
2000-01-01 Larry Elder wrote, “Women know less than men about political issues, economics, and current events”.
2001-09-04 Then, in 2001, Larry Elder published “Ten Things You Can’t Say in America” where he wrote, “Smart women simply overlook some boorish behavior by men. Off-color jokes and stupid remarks may be irritating, but a smart woman deals with this”.

And I’ll tell you what it is. We want you to post the videos online so we can all watch”.
2012-04-01 Rick Santorum campaigned on anti-gay rhetoric and abortion misinformation. And so getting rid of them and making it easier for people to shift spouses like they change their underwear, that’s going to make people happier in the long term. And maybe it worked out for the moms and dads – though I’m skeptical – but it really didn’t work out for the kids in those marriages”.

2021-11-11 Heritage Foundation’s Scott Yenor said, “Every effort must be made not to recruit women into engineering, but rather to recruit and demand more of men who become engineers. Ditto for med school and the law and every trade…If every Nobel Prize winner is a man, that’s not a failure. It’s kind of a cause for celebration. Why can’t our celebration of male excellence in sports be translated into all facets of life? More successful men will mean more happy citizenry and a stronger nation…Such medicated, quarrelsome, and meddlesome women gain their meaning through the seeming participation in the global project. They are agents of the new world – but not new life. Such women are now the backbone of every left-wing cosmopolitan party in the Western world. From the Greens in Germany to the Democratic party in America. And if our ideal woman is a childless media scold or a barren bureaucratic apparatchik, there is no question whether we can have a future. We can’t. There is a question of whether we deserve one”.

Wade Justice Samuel Alito asserted that abortion didn’t have anything to do with gender equity, wasn’t an economic issue, and claimed that “women are not without electoral or political power”, contradicting evidence of racial divide, demographic disparities, and sometimes women having no power because they are not given agency in circumstances of abuse.

2022-08-19 Amber Thurman died after delayed abortion-related care under restrictive state laws. Trump later dismissed questions about the case during a Fox forum. Amber passed away from preventable septic shock and retained products of conception following a medication abortion, with delays in receiving necessary medical care contributing to her death. The care was delayed because when she showed up at Piedmont Henry Hospital for a routine D&C to remove fetal tissue from her body that hadn’t been expelled, she was denied immediate treatment because her State had made performing the procedure a felony. Doctors would have been prosecuted for up to a decade in prison. She waited 20 hours in a hospital bed while providers monitored her blood pressure sinking and organ failure before they operated, but by then it was too late. During a forum with Fox News on women’s issues, Trump was asked, ”…Amber Thurman’s family have come out on a press call and they’re doing what’s called a prebuttal to our town hall right now…” to which Trump replied ”…Oh that’s nice. We’ll get better ratings, I promise.”*
